The Nest boys bring in the new year by looking back at the past decade for the club. They name their top five players each and relive the highs and lows of another successful 10 years for the biggest club in the country!

Who are 'The Nest'?

They are one of the biggest sporting organisations in Australia with one of the largest fan bases and now finally and belatedly there is a platform for those passionate supporters to immerse themselves in everything on-field and off from the club that they love so much.
'The Nest' is a fully independent platform made by fans for the fans that will analyse every angle of the West Coast Eagles without fear or favour from things as simple as their week to week fortunes, right through to in-depth discussions on the major moments of years gone by. And there'll be plenty more in-between.

Justin Longmuir: Making it a Reality

He’s one of the most promising coaches in the AFL, coming off a hugely impressive first season in the job and at just 39 is one of the youngest in the most difficult of capers. A former number two draft pick with the Fremantle Dockers, he now coaches the club that he loves. It’s the stuff of dreams and while the second phase is still in a very early stage, Justin Longmuir is making it a reality. It was great to break all of that down and discuss his journey on Greats with Garby.

Sam Lane & David Gower: Athlete Transition

David Gower and Sam Lane. David Gower is an NRL veteran who has played over a 100 games for the Parramatta Eels and had stints with the West Tigers and Manly Sea Eagles in the NRL. Most recently after retiring, David has transitioned into the Parramatta Eels education and well-being team to support players' life balance and future careers. Sam Lane is an Elite Athlete Well-being researcher and has a lot of depth and science to his views of the modern day athlete which are thought provoking on what athletes endure and the challenges they face whilst playing and post career.

Jake Barker-Daish is a former professional Football player who fell short of his professional career goals. Having been built up to be a future Socceroo after Captaining the Young Socceroos, Winning AIS player of the year 2011 and playing over 30 A-league games, Jake's career stopped at 21. After experiencing injuries, setbacks and loss of connection to the sport, Jake was challenged with life after Football and this has provided a passion to talk about the other side of the athlete that not all people are accustomed to.

In the history of the most popular sport on earth only 62 of the hundreds of millions of men to have ever played the game have made it to four FIFA World Cups and one of them – who also happens to be the 56th player to have captained the Socceroos -  is Mark Milligan. Hear James Troisi speak for the first time since leaving Adelaide United

The man who scored the decisive goal to triumph the Socceroos to the top of the Asian Cup podium in 2015 and won selection for 2014 World Cup in Brazil. James Troisi has had a remarkable journey across his career which saw him start in the youth ranks of Newcastle United in the UK, to rising stardom in Turkey and signing for Serie A giants Juventus. After a long successful career abroad that brought their own unique challenges, James is now back settled into life in Australia and the midfield maestro is looking to have a big year on the park in the A-League and prove he is only getting stronger at 32.

Bryce Gibbs: Reflecting on a fantastic career

He’s a former number one draft pick who would go on to play 231 games for the mighty Carlton Football Club and win a best and fairest as well before finishing his career in his home town of Adelaide at the Crows. There were periods of deep frustration mixed with plenty of highs that will all be touched on with an intriguing character and a player that a lot of fans couldn’t always get a read on. We’ll peel away some of those layers during this chat with Bryce Gibbs

Growing up as a teenager in Melbourne who loved soccer, you couldn’t not idolise Archie and his electric play with countless goals. Ben Crocker: Perspective and headspace

Ben is a former Collingwood Magpie and Adelaide Crows AFL player that has experienced all the highs and lows of the game. Having recently been delisted by the Crows, Ben is like many players figuring out their next move and the direction he takes his life in. However, the Ben Crocker story is bigger than Football having gone through hardship off the field with his father’s diagnosis for early onset dementia which across the last 5 years has progressed to needing 24/7 care. Ben is one of the most charismatic and upbeat athletes you will come across and despite his recent hardship on and off the field, he maintains an infectious positive nature which brings normality to an industry where there is minimal.
