Based in Perth, Western Australia, the Eagles stand out as a prominent Australian rules football club. Founded in 1986, they emerged as an expansion team in the Australian Football League (AFL), formerly the Victorian Football League. Impressively, they play their home games at the modern Optus Stadium and operate from their headquarters at Lathlain Park.
Interestingly, the West Australian Football Commission owns both the West Coast Eagles and the Fremantle Football Club, another notable AFL team from Western Australia. Since the 1990s, the West Coast Eagles have emerged as one of the AFL’s most successful clubs. They have claimed an impressive four premierships, a record they share with Geelong and second only to Hawthorn.
Significantly, the Eagles made history as the first non-Victorian team to both compete in and win an AFL Grand Final, a feat they accomplished in 1992. Subsequently, they secured premierships in 1994, 2006, and 2018. The club’s influence extends beyond the field, as they rank as one of the league’s most profitable and influential entities. As of 2021, they boast over 106,000 members, more than any other club in the league.
In addition to their men’s team, the West Coast Eagles also field a women’s team in the AFLW competition and a reserves team in the WAFL, further showcasing their comprehensive commitment to Australian rules football.
